Quito city is the capital of the country and one of its main cities. There are also other important cities as Guayaquil, Cuenca and Manta.

Galapagos Islands have been declared as Natural Patrimony of the Humanity because in these islands inhabit animal species which are unique on the planet.

In the coast region the tourist can enjoy exotic beaches, of golden sands. In the Amazon region the tourist can enjoy magnificent forest and adventure walks. In the Andean region the tourist can enjoy splendid landscapes of mountains and volcanoes of perpetual snow, lagoons, glaciers, rivers of crystalline waters, protected natural areas, the same ones that possess a great flora and fauna diversity. In this Andean region there are, equally, several interesting colonial cities.

The country, in spite of being small (256.370 Km2), possesses a remarkable biodiversity: 1800 species of birds, 1000 species of fish, 680 species of reptiles and amphibious, 230 species of mammals and more than 20.000 species of plants.

But Ecuador doesn't offer only the opportunity of knowing splendid landscapes but rather it offers to the tourist their population's kindness; population that has developed through the centuries a refined culture, culture that is manifested in their traditions, their archaeology, their literature, their music and their plastic and sculptural art. Foreigners appreciate the national gastronomy; the gastronomy of the coastal region has fame by its shrimps and by a great variety of tropical fruits.

The Ecuadorian handcrafts rival in quality with the best ones in South America. In the country are manufactured ponchos, hand knitted woolen jackets, embroidered blouses, tapestries, the famous "Panama Hat" ( that in fact is an Ecuadorian handcraft), jewels (silver and gold), leather costumes and wooden carvings.
